Solar photovoltaic technology creates a high number of jobs due to the large workforce required for installation, sales, and operations and maintenance, so there is a wide range of opportunities available for women.
Another notable initiative bringing women into the industry is Solar Sister, a non-profit social enterprise covering sub-Saharan Africa that recruits and trains entrepreneurs to set up their own businesses distributing solar products.
This article profiles seven successful founders and entrepreneurs in the solar energy field as examples of the possibilities for women to set up organisations and have pioneering roles in the clean energy sector.
